This work is a series of photography and I try to reflect myself through this series of images. It is the first work I created in New York. For me, identity is not binary; it is an intuition and a sense of freedom. One night, I dreamt of dancing in a lotus-shaped dance floor. Coming to New York symbolizes growth and transformation. My consciousness and self-awareness are constantly being challenged and reshaped. By recreating images from my life, I re-understand myself.
Comparing New York to a dance floor is an interesting metaphor. The city is bustling and frenetic. And the disco ball overhead symbolizes the vibrant and diverse culture. The colorful lights reflect in different directions, exposing everyone on the dance floor. Whether actively or passively, I am exposed in this new environment, always discovering new aspects of myself. This series documents my growth and adaptation, expressing my reflections on cultural identity. By challenging the traditional symbol of the lotus, I reveal the multi-layered meanings of identity and cultural recognition for me.
